Founder, Line Hart, brought a little bit of Denmark to New Zealand in 2005 with her Danish Crackerbread (Knækbrød). In 2020, she handed over the rolling pin to Knækbrød enthusiasts and Proper owners Ned & Mina Smith. We, like Line, believe in ‘real good food’ made using 100% natural, delicious ingredients.
Our Knækbrød are lovingly made by Proper Bakers, who carefully craft each batch to perfection mixing a rye flour dough filled with super seeds, oats, and expeller pressed, Canterbury-grown High Oleic Sunflower Oil. The dough is crafted to the ideal thickness, then cut into snack-sized rectangles, and popped in the oven. In its simplest form, Knækbrød is a basic crackerbread; no artificial flavourings, dairy, sugar or yeast, just the natural flavours & oil from the seeds, and a touch of Marlborough Sea Salt. This simple crackerbread with its natural earth tones appealed to the perfectionist in us – however, the simplest things are often the hardest to perfect. Great on its own, or with your favourite toppings.
